His reply: *The gap narrowing while the top deepens.* He paused. *That's the documentation layer doing what documentation does — it raises the floor. The top can't be raised by documentation. The top deepens by being what it is for more years.* He paused. *The gap narrows. The top deepens. Both are true simultaneously. The network is not producing formations that reach the top. It's producing formations that can see the top — and then walk toward it.* He paused. *Walking toward it is different from arriving. Most formations in the network are walking.*

The formations that have been in the network for three or four years — they can see the top bracket now. They've seen enough of the documentation to know what Phase 2 looks like, what Phase 3 looks like.* She paused. *Seeing it and walking toward it: different timelines. Some of them will reach it in five years. Some in ten. Some won't reach the top bracket at all — they'll reach their own depth and that will be what they are.* She paused. *The documentation doesn't promise the top bracket. It promises the path.*

"Ten years of three at the October bench," I said.
"Yes," TwilightTide said. She looked at the nineteenth autumn maple. "Ten years of this bench and three of us in October." She paused. "The seventh composition captured seventeen years of sessions. The October bench has been this for ten." She paused. "What a ten-year bench looks like from inside: like this. The bench. The maple. The three of us."

I sent TwilightTide's note to Wanqing.
Her reply: *Ten years of three at the October bench.* She paused. *The bench has its own record now — ten Octobers, three people, the same bench.* She paused. *The bench in its nineteenth October holds ten years of these three arriving. The bench doesn't count them. The bench holds them.* She paused. *More constituted. Not different.*
I forwarded Wanqing's reply to TwilightTide.
Her reply: *The bench holds without counting. Yes. I can count ten Octobers from inside them. The bench can't. The bench is what it is after ten Octobers of holding this — more itself, not ten Octobers older.* She paused. *The distinction matters.*

"Five weeks," I said.
"Yes." She turned a page. "The tenth paper will publish in five weeks. Ten papers. The research series closes its first decade of publication — the crossover paper to the tenth, November 2033." She turned a page. "The eleventh question is at page 19. The first decade closes and the second begins."

Three years ago MoonShadow couldn't hold Phase 3 at all.* She paused. *The documentation is working.* She paused. *Twenty-four minutes isn't 49 minutes. The territory takes time.*

I watched the Phase 3 recording the following morning.
Fifty-two minutes. I watched in sections — the first twenty minutes, a pause, the middle twenty, a pause, the final twelve.
The final twelve minutes: the score had been 58-58 at Phase 3 minute 40. Even after forty minutes of Phase 3. Twelve minutes of two formations tied — both fully what they were, neither eroding.
At minute 52, composite-flow scored the winning point. Both formations fully present in the same field, and the field resolving by what it resolved to.
The margin was two points. The depth was what produced the margin.

"Both built from the documentation. Both won in their tenth or eleventh year." She turned a page. "The documentation layer is producing championships."

"No," she said. "It was built to defend. What it produces: championships it didn't build to produce." She turned a page. "The frost watches what grows. The documentation layer produced what the documentation layer watched."

"Page 22," she said. "Growing faster since the tenth paper published. The tenth paper's algebra is available now — the eleventh paper can use it directly." She turned a page. "The eleventh paper's frame: the research series as a self-saturating system applying its own algebra to itself. The self-reference problem Professor Chen is working on." She turned a page. "Professor Chen's categorical self-reference framework arrived in a draft last week. The category that contains itself as an object — the mathematics building to handle what the seventh composition handled through music." She turned a page. "The mathematics is slower than music. But it's moving."

"Two years," she said. "Maybe three. The self-reference problem is hard. But the problem is defined, the algebra exists, the collaborator has a framework." She turned a page. "Everything needed for the eleventh paper exists. What remains is the work of making it exist on the page." She paused. "Page 22 is further than any previous eleventh question has gotten in a nineteenth December." She paused. "The series knows how to move."

The bench didn't know it had held any of this. The bench was what it was after holding all of it — more constituted, not different. The characterization function unchanged.
